Isle of Skye sunsets.... i've just spotted this page on Trip Advisor....

"Best places to watch sunsets on Skye"

Follow the link and you'll see that all the entries suggest either Uig or the Museum of Island Life at Kilmuir.  All Skye Holiday Rentals self catering cottages are along this stretch of Skye coastline and all have sea views for capturing wonderful sunsets on your 'Box Brownie'.

The above is another lovely sunset pic from just north of Uig looking across to the mountains of the Outer Hebrides.  It's taken from the upstairs lounge of our luxury self catering house (Princes Point Villa) by regular guest Iain MacCormick.... thank you Iain.... see you again in August!

A sunny 10th July on the Isle of Skye.... i'm writing today's blog from Duntulm Coastguard Cottages at the very northern tip of the Isle of Skye.  Sitting in the glorious sunshine outside Erisco: the middle one of the three self catering cottages.

As I sip my coffee, i'm looking across Loch Cleat with the water lilies in bloom, black-back gulls noisily bathing themselves in the clear fresh water and not a cloud in the Skye.... perfik!

If I srtoll to the other side of the Coastguard Cottages, I look out over the craggy ruins of Duntulm Castle and across the sea to the Western Isles.... Harris, Lewis and the Uists.

The views are timeless and almost from another dimension... particularly if you live in a busy part of the world.  I'm thinking of the days I used to do the London commute a few times a week.....  M25 or the Isle of Skye?  I know where i'd rather be!

Having a complete escape to the Scottish Highlands and Islands is a wonderful way to re-charge your batteries and slow down to a more sedate pace of life.

Our wee family business, Skye Holiday Rentals, offers a choice of self catering holiday homes on Skye, from cosy cottages to a large luxury Villa.  All the properties are set amid glorious Skye scenery and have wonderful sea views.

I'll not drone on any more but just leave you with a couple of sunset pictures taken just outside the Duntulm Coastguard Cottages at 10.30 last evening.  You are looking from Tulm Bay across the sea to the mountains of Harris and Lewis.... simply stunning!  I was actually in my 'PJ's taking these pics.... that's how quiet it is here!

So for all of you heading to an airport and jetting off to foreign climes, this is what you're missing in Scotland!

9th  July.... on the Isle of Skye!   I've decided to periodically post Guest Reviews on our Blog pages.....It's always good to see guests holiday experiences of Princes Point Villa and the Isle of Skye in general.  So, here we go with a first one from the Crane family who stayed at the Villa over the May Bank Holiday.....

31st May 2014

"What a stunning week in a stunning house. We loved being here!
We have all enjoyed the marvellous views out of every room, made good use of the barbecue,
the garden and the telescope.
I have to say, it has been a real joy to stay here in a house that has everything.
It was great to be met by a warm house; very welcome after the day's drive.
Great to meet you.
Thanks again, truly fantastic week in a fantastic house."

Steve Crane.

Steve, with family and dog, were fortunate enough to see a 'school' of twelve porpoises playing in the bay below the Villa.  The porpoises stayed around all day and the family made good use of the viewing scope in the upstairs lounge to keep a watchful eye.  The photo below records the event, but it's a bit like one of those blurry shots of 'Nessie'.... is it real.... or not?  I've included another snap from the same holiday week.... it was of course lambing time here on Skye and these pair look very cute!

Spotting so many (twelve) porpoises together is unusual... two or three is more usual. You always need to keep a watchful eye out for the amazing Scottish wildlife that's right next to you at the Villa.  Looking to the sea, we spot whales, basking sharks, porpoises, otters and a wide variety of seabirds.  Look to the hills and we have buzzards, golden eagles, kites, merlins, and many other rare species.  There are corncrakes in the adjacent fields.... it's a bird-watcher's paradise!

Our very first blog for Skye Holiday Rentals....

Hi and welcome to the Blog for our new Skye Holiday Rentals website.
We should introduce ourselves.....
I'm Andy Butler and I act as General Factotum of our small family business located on the beautiful Isle of Skye. We have been involved in tourism on Skye for over twenty five years and I can say (with hand on wallet).... we haven't lost a guest yet!
We have five lovely self-catering properties all situated on the amazing Trotternish Peninsula in north-east Skye each with wonderful sea and mountain views.
The properties range from the three cosy cottages at Duntulm Coastguard Station, a lovely modernised croft cottage at Flodigarry and our flagship property.... Princes Point Villa at Totescore near Uig.

This is the Villa at Totescore last Saturday 28th June.... looking more like the Mediterranean than the Scottish Highlands!
We have recently completed a top-to-toe renovation of Princes Point and it is now available for you to enjoy as a luxury self catering holiday home.... it's really fabulous.... check out the Gallery section of the website.
The other properties are all being refurbished before being available as holiday lets: Altavaig at Flodigarry will be ready in October and the Duntulm Coastguard Cottages will be available in early they are always very popular!

It's time to wrap-up my very first blog..... tummy is rumbling and the glorious evening sun is calling me for a wee wander out to Duntulm Castle to watch another Hebridean sunset.....
